[2015] Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP)-Varna
„KASI Automation“ team designed and put into operation the second phase of the reconstruction and modernization of Varna Waste Water Treatment Plant / WWTP in engineering part: Control & Measurment devices and automation.

The control system of WWTP Varna is build according to all new requirements and contemporary solutions in the field of the wastewater treatment.
The system covers all levels of the management structure.
First level – Local management for each mechanism.
Each mechanism is equipped with a separate remote control, which allows choosing between the following options: operating mode, start, stop and facility output, each option is being monitored and registered in the upper levels of the management structure.


Second level – Local management centers of the nodes in the WWTP .
All new management centers (MCC - motor control centers) are equipped with Schneider Electric series Modicon M340 controllers.

The local monitoring and data input is being performed on HMI panels Schneider Electric series Magelis XBT GT.


The monitoring and management of the processes is controlled in all points of the treatment plant according to the technological scheme.
The used measurement equipment is made by leading manufacturers: Schneider Electric , Siemens , Hach Lange , Nivus , Binder, JUMO, Endress+Hauser, etc.;

Third level – SCADA system for monitoring and control of the processes
In the control room of the WWTP is located a SCADA system, which is the third level of the system. Schneider Electric SCADA Expert Vijeo Citect v7.40 software is being used.
The system perform the following functions:
- Collecting information about the status of the equipment in the treatment plant;
- Total management of the equipment in the treatment plant, including control of the running processes;
- Selection and data procesing the values of specified technological parameters; the possition (on-off; working – not working) of the main equipment; the overruns of technological parameters; the alarms and others.
- Visualization the technical systems of the individual technology subsites and the state of the electrical circuits. - Registering of the main process parameters, data about the performed operation during the technological processes , emergencies, etc .;
- The records are being used for assessing the need of verification and maintenance the equipment and the entire facility; The system can be upgraded and expanded and it provides permanent connection to the system for consistently rehabilitation of the wastewater treatment plant subsites.




Communication
The connection between the facilities of the second and the third level of control is carried out via Ethernet network build of optic cable network, to which are connected and objects of the first stage of reconstruction of WWTP Varna.
The primary communication protocol between all the MCCs and the SCADA is Modbus TCP/IP, protocols RS 485 Modbus RTU and PROFINET are also being used if connecting the appropriate peripherals is needed.
The connection between the equipment units of the first and the second level is made via cable network build according to the type and the characteristics of the signals (analog or discrete).
Signals from the control measuring devices and automation equipment at various points of the treatment plant according to the technological scheme: level, temperature, pressure, flow, water quantity, quantity of sludge, acidity -rN, phosphorus-P, biogas quality.
Status feedback of the electrical equipment in the treatment plant including: voltage, current, power, cos ϕ, status of the communications equipment, swiching on and off the equipment, damage and etc.
